10 simple tips for new travel bloggers

I am neither an expert nor an instructor to give tips for new travel bloggers yet. However, I do want to put forward a few things that I remember learning during my journey as a travel blogger. I learned a few from my own experience and a few from fellow travel bloggers (entrepreneurs I would rather say). I have applied the same tips on my travel blog cum business, which has helped me taste some success.

1. Read a Lot of Books

I did not pay a lot of heed to this tip until I started realizing that my writing style only evolved with every chapter of a book that I read. For example, I am currently reading the book – One year of living Danishly. I read a couple of chapters one day and sat down to write a blog post soon after that. I realized my writing turned out to be a little wittier. It seemed like I had taken something from the style of the author of the book. Sometimes, you also become well versed with the usage of certain phrases. So, read as many books as you can. And it does not necessarily have to be travel-related. It could be anything that interests you. So, reading is certainly one of the best tips for new travel bloggers.

2. Embrace Rejections – One of the best tips for new travel bloggers

Embracing rejections is not as easy as it sounds. Honestly, I could embrace the refusals after months of being in the field. You would get rejected by 90 out of 100 brands you pitch to. But, keep going. I have now started taking some rejections very positively.

For example, a well-renowned travel publication replied to my article pitch saying that they are looking for an article that speaks more about my country’s beauty. They even underlined a few lines indicating where the changes were required. Now, that’s a clear sign that they liked my article. It is just those few lines where I need to work, which, trust me, is easy to do.

3. Create Useful Travel Content

As a travel blogger, you would often find yourself running out of fresh travel content. Don’t worry, there is no need to panic. Try creating a mix of something you think you would have loved reading about and what your audience becomes more engaged with. It always works.

If you still struggle to write, go to Pinterest, and browse through the travel pins. You would end up getting a lot of post ideas from the platform.

4. Use the power of social media

Whether you like it or not, social media platforms are a must for any business today. That’s the best way to mark your presence in any industry. And for a profession like travel blogging, social media only helps to make your presence more powerful.

5. Learn to wear different hats at the very beginning – One of the underrated tips for new travel bloggers

When you start as a travel blogger, you might not be able to or ready to afford to outsource the work. During the initial stages, you need to learn and edit the photos and videos, run social media promotions, and, most importantly, do SEO for your blog/ website. The earlier you learn to wear different hats, the better it is.

6. Invest in Your Blog

Investing in your blog does not necessarily mean investing money. I would suggest first investing in yourself – your skills, etc. Then, invest your time in doing thorough research, thereby creating good content. When both of these things are in place, invest the required sum of money in your blog.

Always remember, you get returns in business only after investing in it.

7. Getting anxious and impatient only ruins the day

A day spent in anxiety is a day wasted. One needs to understand that blogging is a business, and no business succeeds overnight. If the success parameters like blog traffic, domain authority, etc., are moving in a positive direction, you are doing it just right. Be patient and keep going. Your hard work will pay off soon.

8. Running behind money won’t make you rich in the long run, but the right content would

Do not expect to earn from your travel blog from the very first month. It takes on average a minimum of 2-3 years for a business to succeed. Do not expect easy monies from travel blogging. It is a business and thus would become profitable after a certain period only.

Keep creating shareable content on your blog and consider that as your portfolio. That portfolio could lead to so many other sources of income. So, having a great content portfolio is a must.

9. Become a Yes Man for a few weeks/ months

Watch the movie Yes Man if you haven’t watched it yet. The movie shows how just simply saying yes to everything and facing your fears could unexpectedly change your life.

Say yes to every single opportunity that comes your way.

10. Create Products – One of the best tips for new travel bloggers who want to monetize through products

Create some products of your own. It may be something to do with clothing, travel accessory, or even an online course. For example, I have created pocket guides on about seven destinations that people can download when they subscribe to my blog. I also post these guides on Instagram, and they have been the most saved and shared feeds on my Instagram page.

These were some tips that I suggest the new travel bloggers follow. And I would repeat that blogging is a business, and any business requires some hard work, some smart work, and a lot of patience.
