Travel News 07/2022 – COVID cases rise in South Korea; quarantine inspections to tighten at airports
Reports suggest that around 200 quarantine workers will be additionally assigned to Incheon International Airport, which is the first gateway to the country. Likewise, seven other regional airports are also in stages to tighten quarantine inspection.
South Korea is all set to reinforce quarantine inspections at its major airports. Referring to this, Interior Minister Lee Sang-min stated that they are expecting that the number of travellers will rise sharply in the summer vacation season, amid a new wave of virus resurgence.
. Reports suggest that around 200 quarantine workers will be additionally assigned to Incheon International Airport, which is the first gateway to the country. Likewise, seven other regional airports are also in stages to tighten quarantine inspection. This was declared by the Minister during a government virus response meeting.
Reports further added that the government will be facilitating a safe tourism environment as travel demand is expected to shoot up due to the normalisation of international air routes and during peak summer vacation season.
Additionally, the government will also set up around 2500 workers at top tourist destinations across the nation to ensure that the antivirus rules and hygiene standards are in place. As per the reports, the nation is facing another virus resurgence due to a highly contagious mutation of the Omicron strains, BA.5.
The South Korean Government has also decided to expand eligibility for the fourth COVID vaccine shot to people aged 50 years, and older, as well as people aged 18 and older, with underlying health conditions. Earlier, only those aged 60 or over, or with an immune disorder were eligible for the fourth dose.
As per the government, reservations for the new round of vaccination will start from Monday, while the vaccine shots will be provided from August 1. Reports suggest that the average daily cases of the new Coronavirus reached 29865 in the week until Friday, which nearly doubled from the previous week.
