Best ways to carry money while traveling

Traveling is beautiful, traveling is thrilling, traveling is sometimes even life-changing. Yes, we all know that. But, that does not mean traveling is always glamourous. It can sometimes be risky too. Petty crimes like theft, pickpocketing, etc., are a common concern wherever you go, including in your home country.  Such incidents discourage us more while traveling than they would have if we’re in our home country. The reason is simple – we do not like any shit happening to us while we are busy satisfying our wanderlust. Also, every dollar is dear when we are traveling.

During my first international trip to Europe, I remember I had forgotten my wallet (with some $200) on the bus while traveling from Amsterdam to Paris. It was a nightmare, and I kept blaming myself until I came back to India. Fortunately, I had kept the money in three more different places.

I have invested in a few wearable accessories to carry money while traveling. To be able to hide money on your body is such a great way to travel worry-free. Nevertheless, I still divide the cash and keep it in different places like backpack, wallet, suitcase, etc.

In this post, I have compiled a list of travel accessories (primarily for women) that would make your travels relaxed and theft-proof to some extent.

1. Infinity Scarf – My most preferred way to carry money while traveling

An infinity scarf secures your valuables with a hidden zipper pocket. The pocket is big enough to accommodate your hard currency, cards, passport, sunglasses, keys, etc. And the best thing is that many people don’t even know that your scarf has a hidden pocket. So, an infinity scarf wrapped around your neck would be off the radar for prospective thieves.

I have been using the infinity scarf by Halo for the last two years and can not emphasize its importance enough. The infinity scarf is one of the bests ways to hide money on your body. Okay, I hope no thief reads this post.

Good to know: The proceeds of sale go towards the education of young women of Laos.

2. Clothes with pockets

Wearing a piece of cloth, which we usually wear like a vest, tank top, boots, etc., that has pockets (not quite visible), to keep your valuables, is one of the best ways to carry money while traveling. You can carry your important medicines, cell phone, etc., in these pockets.

I am currently using the tank top, vest, and pantie by Vockets, all having pockets. The best thing about these pockets is that people cannot see them, and even you barely feel that you are wearing them. I was recently traveling by air and was carrying a couple of pieces of expensive jewelry. I usually do not like to keep costly things in the bag and put them through the scanning machine. So, I simply put the jewelry in my tank top, which was under a tee.

The vest with pockets has been the most useful when I travel to a winter destination. I wear the vest under a jacket so that it is not visible.

3. Garter Purse

Have you ever felt the need for a travel accessory that can safely carry your valuables, while you are all dressed up for dinner at a fancy restaurant, and you do not want to carry (or you did not pack an embellished clutch) a purse with you? If yes, then the garter purse by GirlyGoGarter is your ultimate wearable accessory. Moreover, most of us often want to be hands-free while on the go.

You can wear the lace purse with comfy fiber, around your leg, secured with strong velcro. With a capacity of holding about 1.2 kg, the purse comes with two rows of stitched pockets and its patented GentleFlex™ grippers. The grippers are soft and non-itchy, making the garter purse extremely comfortable to wear.

I have even worn the purse under my summer dress while traveling in the scorching heat of Rajasthan, but it did not tend to slip against the sweat. And that’s, trust me, is one of the best features of the product.

Moreover, most of us want to be hands-free while on the go.

4. Bra Pocket

If you worry that you would lose the only card, cash, or even a small piece of costly souvenir while on the go, wearing a bra pocket is apt for you.

The secret stash by Brazabra smoothly tucks away the valuable things in secret spots, and keep them close enough that you know where they are.

Have you ever had those scary thoughts that you will lose all your money, and cards in a foreign country? Well, I sometimes get such thoughts, which is why I got the secret stash for myself a few months back. Now, I know that I have some cash as a backup, lying in the pocket attached to my bra.

5. Money Belt – My least preferred way to carry money while traveling

A money belt is one of the most bought travel accessories to carry money while traveling, which means it is comparatively more vulnerable to theft. However, Such belts are most suitable when you need easy access to the cash, passport, or card while keeping it close to your body. I use the waist belt by PortaPocket. You can also wear it around the waist, hip, or even thigh.

The best feature of Porta Pocket is that all PortaPocket bands can connect with other PortaPocket bands to add length, as needed. Also, the pockets are sweat and moisture resistant.

6. Pocket Socks

Another way to keep the valuables in a discreet place is to wear socks with pockets. Pocket Socks can conceal cards, cash, and other similar items. I have not used the product, but it is unarguably a useful accessory.

7. Pocket Slippers

I know, it is just getting crazier with every accessory in this list. But, there are some smart people out there who bring such great utility products to our convenience.

The pocket slippers by Stash™ Slide have a built-in stash pocket to keep the cash or key while you are literally on your foot, enjoying the travel destination. Do you want to know more? The footbed is waterproof, which means you can indulge in water adventures while keeping your valuables afloat. Moreover, the slides are eco and water friendly.

These were the travel products/ brands that I have been using for quite some time now. These accessories invariably bring me absolute peace of mind while I am traveling.

I hope this list was helpful, and you would soon invest in some of these travel accessories. Each of them is so important for us to travel unworried.

There are a few more on the list, which I will update after I use them.
