List of travel essentials post covid-19

We cannot deny the fact that Coronavirus has changed the way we travel. With the massive impact on the travel industry coronavirus has had, it will surely change the way we travel, maybe forever. Most of us have been treating our cabin fever with local staycations and long-distance road trips. Fortunately, a few countries have begun to lift the restrictions, which means people can now consider traveling again. The pandemic situation has been highly unpredictable. In this post, I have compiled a list of travel essentials that would make your travels during the coronavirus pandemic safer to a great extent.

1. Travel Insurance

Okay, that is not an accessory. But, it is probably more important than any other travel accessory. While most of us have let it pass before, we can no longer give it a second thought. Insurance that covers emergency evacuation or medical aid has also become a necessary emergency blanket. You can check out policies offered by hdfcergo, and world nomad.

2. Face Mask – the topmost on the travel essentials list

A face mask has been the bare minimum travel accessory ever since we have been trying to adapt to the new normal. And it is crucial to invest in a good quality mask. I am currently using Vogmask, and it has been the best mask so far solely due to it’s fitting. After all, face mask fit matters. Vogmask gives excellent coverage to the face with a tight grip, and would still not make you feel suffocated. Also, there is no haze hovering over my spectacles. The masks come along with a head strap that can adjust the face mask according to your comfort, thereby ensuring a better seal. 

Some airlines may provide face masks before boarding, but I would recommend picking up your own. 

3. Hand Sanitizer

We all have to agree that none of us had used the hand sanitizers as much as we are using them now. The sanitizer market boomed after the coronavirus outbreak. Just like the face mask, sanitizer is amongst the top items in the travel essentials list. Keeping your hands clean is one of the best ways to stay safe. I usually carry a small bottle of sanitizerallowed by the TSA (transport security administration).

I recently bought a sanitizer wristband from Invaluable Inventions that has proved to be so useful. It has proved to be a boon to me when I am traveling. The band eliminates the need for taking out the sanitizer bottle from my bag again and again. I now swear by the sanitizer band for my city trips.

4. Thermometer and Oximeter

None of us is going to get covid-19 by choice. We won’t even come to know we caught it until we notice any symptoms. You can carry a thermometer and Oximeter to keep a constant check on your medical condition. That would allow you to ensure proper safety while on the go.

5. Face Shield

I feel suffocated while wearing a face shield. But, it is mandatory to wear it on the flight. It is safe to wear one in a crowded place, especially for those who keep touching their eyes, ears, and mouth unconsciously.

Since you will need to wear a face shield only at selected places, you can always keep the one you get from the airlines.

6. Sanitizer Holder

If you rate comfort over style, a sanitizer holder is a great travel accessory. Since you don’t have to rummage through your stuff to access it, there’s less chance of cross-contamination. The holder usually includes a travel-sized plastic bottle that can get refilled from a larger hand sanitizer bottle.

7. Disinfecting wipes

Although the airlines have been following adequate safety measures like disinfecting the flight before boarding, it is still nice to carry around your own set of disinfecting wipes. Being apprehensive of the contamination (which most of us are), I always wipe down the seat handles, tray table, seat belt before taking my seat.

 

8. Disinfectant Spray

In a larger area like a hotel/ hostel room, disinfecting the surfaces with sanitizing wipes become a little impractical. The disinfectant spray comes to your rescue here. So, add that to the travel essentials list too. 

9. Smartphone Sanitizer 

Our smartphone is probably the most frequently touched items out of all, making it necessary to get a UV smartphone sanitizer. The sanitizer disinfects your phone, electronic payment card, keys, and other similar items that can fit inside the sanitizing section. Some sanitizers also come along with a charging port like this one.

10. Your Pen – an unexpected addition to your travel essentials list

As underrated a travel accessory a pen has been during our travels, it is high time that you start carrying your own. Most of us are used to borrowing a pen from the airport counter or the seat neighbor. Please restrain from doing that anymore. It is anyway a good idea to have a pen handy to fill up those immigration forms, declaration forms, etc.

These are only the essentials that you must carry while traveling during the pandemic. If you are the paranoid type, you can also add a pair of disposable hand gloves, PPE suits, bottled water, travel cutlery, a plastic key to push and open doors, an airplane seat cover, etc., to the travel essentials list. A Mask chain is another great item that would complement your face mask and enhance your chic style.
