Travel news 05/2022-Foundation of India’s Longest Highway laid down by PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation of India’s longest highway, the Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahpur. According to Prime Minister’s Office, the six-lane 594km long expressway will be built at a cost of about INR 36000 crores.
Launching the project, the PM said “Today is the historic day when work is going to start on the longest expressway”. The vision of PM Modi is to offer high-speed connectivity all over India.

This expressway will begin close to Bijauli village along National Highway 334 in Meerut and go on till near the Judapur Dandu village near bypass of NH-2 in Prayagraj. The highway will pass through Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj.
Apart from this, a 3.5km long airstrip will also be built-in Shahjahanpur for emergency assisting and also for landing and take-off of Air Force planes. The PMO also mentioned that an industrial corridor will also be built across the expressway.

“It will boost the income of agriculture, commerce, tourism and industries and will also serve as an industrial corridor”. Said a spokesperson from PMO.

To protect the environment, around 18,55,000 saplings will be planted across the expressway. The highway features 7 railway overbridges, nine public convenience centres and 381 underpasses.
