Police say the suspects were linked to a stolen vehicle, an attempted carjacking at gunpoint and a brief pursuit that was tracked from the air.,

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Two 16-year-old boys were arrested Saturday afternoon after Minneapolis police say they were involved in an attempted carjacking at gunpoint in south Minneapolis. Officers also linked the pair to a stolen vehicle that was reported driving recklessly and to attempts to break into other vehicles.

The arrests came after a short pursuit that ended when officers found the vehicle near Lake Street and Humboldt Avenue South and followed it with help from a Minnesota State Patrol aircraft.

How The Chase Unfolded

Police said the response began after reports came in about a stolen vehicle being driven dangerously. According to officials, the people inside the vehicle were armed and had tried to carjack someone at gunpoint.

Officers located the vehicle and started a chase, but the pursuit was later stopped once the aircraft could track it from above. That allowed police to keep watching the vehicle without continuing the ground chase.

Arrests In South Minneapolis

As the vehicle moved through the area, one occupant got out and ran near West 31st Street and Emerson Avenue South, while the other three stayed in the vehicle before fleeing near the 3300 block of 10th Avenue South. Police said they arrested the two 16-year-olds there.

The teens were booked into the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center. Authorities did not say whether any weapons were recovered.

Investigation Still Open

Minneapolis police say the case remains under investigation. No further details were immediately released about the other occupants or the attempted carjacking victim.

The department has not said what charges the two teenagers could face.
